LOS ANGELES, Calif. (July 21, 2025) – L.A. Care and Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plans hosted a back-to-school event July 19 to celebrate the grand opening of their Community Resource Center (CRC) in Lincoln Heights, located at 2430 N. Broadway in Los Angeles.
The new Center is the 14th of its kind, jointly operated by the two health plans. These Centers, strategically located among the most underserved neighborhoods of Los Angeles County, are designed to meet health plan members and community residents where they are and help address their health and social needs, including crucial housing and food resources.
The new Center, located in the heart of Lincoln Heights, officially opened its doors on June 1 and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It offers a variety of free services and classes to anyone in the community.
“We believe that true health starts in the community — where people live, work and raise their families,” said Martha Santana-Chin, CEO of L.A. Care. “This new Community Resource Center is more than just a physical space — it’s a lifeline for individuals and families who may be struggling and don’t know where to turn. Here, they’ll find not only essential services and support, but also dignity, compassion and a sense of belonging. We’re proud to bring this lasting resource to a community that deserves to be uplifted.”
“We see the impact our Centers make every day on the health and well-being of Los Angeles County residents, and events like this are another example of the great contributions we can continue to make in the community,” said Kristen Cerf, president and CEO of Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan. “To help equip local students for the new school year, we will distribute 21,000 backpacks at our Centers, adding to the nearly 100,000 backpacks distributed since 2019.”
In January 2025, Blue Shield Promise and L.A. Care extended an agreement to jointly operate the network of Community Resource Centers throughout Los Angeles County — renewing their commitment to support the health and well-being of the Los Angeles community and ensuring the offerings the Centers provide will continue to be available through 2029. The extension of the collaboration underscores the shared mission of L.A. Care and Blue Shield Promise to improve access to essential health-related resources, foster community connections and address social needs, while enhancing health outcomes for their members and the broader Los Angeles community.
